What is the Maldives Immigration Declaration (IMUGA) / Maldives Arrival Card?


The Maldives Immigration Declaration (IMUGA) or Maldives Arrival Card is a paper form used to record personal and travel information of incoming passengers. It is a mandatory entry document required by the Maldives customs department for incoming travelers to fill out.


Who needs to fill out the IMUGA Immigration Declaration?


All travelers to the Maldives, whether foreign tourists or Maldivian citizens and residents, are required to complete the IMUGA Immigration Declaration. This includes:

  • Foreign Tourists: anyone traveling to the Maldives for tourism, business, or other purposes.

  • Maldivian Citizens and Residents: even Maldivian citizens and lawful residents must complete the immigration declaration.

  • Transit Travelers: if a traveler is transiting through the Maldives with plans to enter, they must also complete the declaration.

Everyone must complete this declaration before arrival. This requirement applies to all age groups, including children. Note that it is no longer required to complete a departure declaration before leaving the Maldives.


When can you apply for the Maldives Arrival Card?


You can complete the Maldives Immigration Declaration within 96 hours before your trip, or you may submit it earlier, but you will still receive your Maldives Arrival Card within 96 hours of your entry. The 96-hour window includes the travel day itself. For example, if you are traveling on January 5, you will receive your MDAC as early as January 2.


What information does the Maldives Arrival Card contain?


The Maldives Arrival Card typically includes a personal photo and basic information such as your name, nationality, passport number, date of birth, and travel details like your expected length of stay, place of stay, and purpose of travel.


How should you keep the Maldives Arrival Card?


After completing the Maldives Immigration Declaration, you will receive a PDF document containing a QR code via email. Print this document and carry it with you during your trip for customs verification or other uses.


Are there passport requirements for the Maldives Arrival Card?


When applying for the Maldives Arrival Card and entering the Maldives, your passport must be valid for more than six months.
